Study of critical issues/ problems in dissemination of information to the farmers as perceived by agriculture extension agents at Pishin/ Killa Abdullah districts of Balochistan

Data regarding the respondent's characters, their perception about the importance of various components of questionnaire and their opinions about the effectiveness of various types of training courses and continuing education programme were analyzed. The investigation was conducted to determine demographic characteristics of extension agents, to identify critical issues /problems as identified by extension agents and to suggest/recommend future strategies of solutions of these issues. It was concluded that the agricultural sector is the dominant sector in the district. Horticulture within this sector is the backbone of the economy. The district has potential for high valued cash crops like fruits, vegetables, tobacco, potato etc. The farmers are commercial farmers, mainly producing for the market. Because of social and cultural factors, female involvement in the agricultural sector is not significant. Majority 50% of the agriculture extension officer belonged to the age category of 31 to 40 years. Majority 50% agriculture extension agents were M.Sc. (Agri.) Hons Degree Holders. Majority of the agriculture extension agents 40% had 11-15 years professional experience. Majority 57.14% of agriculture extension agents were in-service trained. It was observed from the data that 4 out of 10 professional problems given high ranks (Rank Number 2, 7, 9 and 10) were related to the subject of administration and management in extension, while three more items (with rank number 1, 3 and 6) were pertained to financial management / position of extension departments. Limited recourses available with agriculture extension agent was identify as No. 1 important / critical issue and was (Rank Number 1). Majority of the respondents (57.14%) were in favour of degree programmes.
