Twenty rubber clones evaluated against Phytophthora leaf blight disease in Kabacan, Cotabato, Philippines
2007
Tangonan, N.G.
Rubber (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.) is a popularly grown plantation crop in Mindanao. Many farmers, however, are not aware of the existence of diverse clones recommended for planting, hence, this study aimed to screen 20 rubber clones for resistance or susceptibility against Phytophthora blight disease caused by P. palmivora. Clones GT1, RRIM 703, PR261 and RRIM 705 (available at the USM Rubber Germplasm Collection) proved tolerant of the disease both in nursery screening and field conditions, thus better recommended for planting. This is also the first record of P. palmivora causing leaf blight of rubber in the country.
