This experiment examined the effect of stocking rate (SR) on selectivity, dry matter (DM) intake and milk production of Girgentana goats grazing on a ryegrass (RG) and berseem clover (BC) mixture. 21 goats at 130 more or less than 6 d of lactation were divided into 3 homogeneous groups. Each group grazed on a plot at high, medium or low SR. Goats were fed 500 g head per d of barley meal. Sward biomass, herbage selected by goats and individual milk yield were measured and sampled weekly. DM intake, digestibility and botanic composition of diet were assessed by the n-alkane method. During the 62 d of contemporary grazing, biomass availability was lower at HSR. BC was dominant in each plot, while RG decreased with SR increase. DMI and digestibility of forage increased from HSR to LSR, resulting in an improved milk yield, without changes in milk composition. HSR gave the lowest total milk yield/goat, and MSR produced the highest milk per ha
