Breeding for fungal resistance to Plasmopara v., Oidium t. and Botrytis c., is the top priority goal in our grapevine-breeding program for last two decades. In 1986 our new variety Petra (Kunbarat x Pinot noir) was crossed with new Hungarian variety Bianca. The lineage of obtained hybrid population except V. vinifera included hereditary stock of V. amurensis and several North American species. Seedlings were raised and selected under field conditions without chemical pest control. The intensity of occurrence of fungal diseases was assessed in accordance with IBPGR scheme in the years when disease attacks were registered. During the period of primary selection (1987-1992) seedlings suffered intensive attacks by Oidium t., while Plasmopara v. attacked only in one year. During the secondary selection Pasmopara v. severely attacked elite genotypes, while moderate attack by Oidium t. occurred only in one year. Petra x Bianca hybrid population analyses conformed that the resistance to these two mycoses is polygenically conditioned, as well as that they were inherited independently (r=0.04).
