Experimental investigations were conducted to examine slaughter characteristics of fattening chickens as affected by the duration of fattening and breeding system. Fattening of the chickens included extensive fattening in a poultry house and free-range breeding. Fattening lasted 49, 56 and 63 days. The randomly selected chickens were slaughtered at the end of each fattening period for examination of qualitative and quantitative traits of processed carcasses. The paper presents research results on dressing percentages in trial chickens. The highest (74.80%) and the lowest percentages (72.91%) were recorded in the chickens slaughtered at 49 days and 63 days of age, respectively. The analysis of significance determined that the difference was statistically significant. As opposed to that, differences in both the breeding systems studied and chicken gender were slight and statistically insignificant.
