Fast and precise determination of soil properties with the local determination of quantitative differences in a measured soil property is assumed to be the principle of precision farming. Classical penetrometers are not able to accomplish these requirements. A multi-segment vertical knife instrument together with an application defining the geographic location by using a GPS system enables to specify differences in soil penetrometer resistance in different depths within different parts of a field. The results have revealed suitability of such a solution for the creation of soil spatial variability maps and where necessary their using for operative interventions during the process of soil tillage.
