According to the Direction for the measures to undertake to prevent contagious diseases of animals TSE entering Republic of Serbia (Sl.Glasnik br 26/07) inspection of the products of animal origin from import on presence of bovine proteins has to be done. In Veterinary Institute of Serbia in Belgrade, 150 samples have been analysed by accredited ELISA method for the identification of the processed bovine proteins. There have been tested 50 samples of different types of dry sausages and 20 samples of half-cooked sausages, 20 soup samples and 60 other different products of animal origin (gelatines and capsules). AMong all these products only one sausage sample has been positive on presence of bovine material (Primorska al Kranjska kobasica), but all other samples have been negative. Although there has been detected only one positive sample from imported products of animal origin, it shows that preventive measures are still needed and that Direction is absolutely reasonable.
