The threat of pesticide and nitrate contamination of groundwater will increase the need for farmers, ranchers, and other applicators to modify some common production practices. Preventing groundwater contamination is particularly important because, once contaminated, it is very difficult and expensive to clean up. It should encourage the voluntary adoption of Best Management Practices (BMPs). BMPs are recommended methods activities designed to prevent of reduce water pollution while maintaining profits.
