Spring wheat growth and productivity was learnt in the conditions of the panoponica method of growing at rizothrones. Root-inhabited microorganism number of different taxonomic and physiological groups was also under study. Two-dimensional inert medium was used as a root medium. The inert medium was covered with thin layers of sod-podzol and chernozem soil and Cambrian loam mother rock. It was found that soil or mother rock presence had a stimulating effect on the plant growth and productivity in spite of unlimited root system supply of water and nutrients. The differences of root layer composition effect on microorganisms quantity and functional activity and plant growth and productivity. The most productive plants formed on the root layer with Cambrian loam, where plant requirement and microbiological and other processes were more coordinated.
