The winter 2006/2007 was anomalously warm for the central part of Russia and a lot of soft fruit and ornamental cultures suffered from the frost that arrived at the end of the winter. Russian Far East species, such as Vaccinium hirtum Thumb., V. praestans Lamb., some cultivars of North American species- Vaccinium corymbosum and V. angustifolium and the varietes of native plant - V. uliginosum starting early vegetation - lost a significant part of their flower buds. Most of the plants examined had also vegetative organs damaged to a slight or temperate degree (except of V. axillare from Far East). However, some species and cultivars were found out to be resistance to the anomalous climatic conditions. The wide-spread plants of the Russian Plain, such as Oxycoccus palustris Pers., Vaccinium vitis-idea L. and V. myrtillus L. had no winter injuries. Some cultivars of V. uliginosum (Chiashevidnaya) and V. corymbosum (Bluetta) flowered and fructified as usually.
