The paper sets out the legislative status of silage additives and details certain legislative requirements concerning their use at agricultural holdings. The list of feed additives authorised within the Community for placing on the market and use as silage additives is presented, as well as applicable silage techniques, and requirements laid down in the Regulation on feed hygiene applicable for agricultural holdings, depending on the feed additive type used in ensilage. The paper further presents the most important control points in feed production and preparation at agricultural holdings. The issue concerning the use of certain feed additives which might be used at Slovenian agricultural holdings for ensiling, but have not been authorised for use as silage additives, is presented as well.
