The objective of this study was to assess the effect of breed origin for several longevity related traits, measured up to 7 yr of age in Holstein cows. A total of 817 Holstein cows of different origins (Slovenia (SI) n = 461, Germany (GER) n = 98, the Netherlands (NETH) n = 155 and Denmark (DEN) n = 103)), were imported in Slovenia as pregnant heifers. Cows were survived from 3.9 to 4.3 parities with no significant differences between groups. Significantly (p0.05) youngest at firs calving were NETH cows in comparison with SI, GER and DEN cows (27.4 mo, 28.9 mo, 29.5 mo, 29.6 mo, respectively). Study on longevity showed that the SI cows were earlier culled and therefore also had shorter lactation compared with other Holstein cows. Notwithstanding, this difference was significant only in comparison with DEN cows (2399 d, 2590 d, p0.05). In relation to shorter lactation, longevity index was higher in imported Holstein cows than in SI cows. However, NETH cows had significantly higher longevity index than SI cows (0.57, 0.53, p0.05). Significantly (p0.05) higher milk daily yield was observed by SI in comparison to GER and NETH cows (23.0 kg, 21.6 kg, 21.4 kg, respectively). In spite of origin, no significant differences in lifetime milk yield were observed between Holstein cows. DEN cows had the highest lifetime fat yield in comparison with SI cows (1508 kg, 1300 kg, p 0.05).
