Genetically modified organisms: presence of gmo in feed | Gensko spremenjeni organizmi: prisotnost gso v krmi
2007
Stebih, D., National Inst. of Biology, Ljubljana (Slovenia). Dept. of Biotechnology and Systems Biology
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are widely grown, with Roundup Ready (R) soybean on 60% of the fields with soybean. Acreage of other genetically modified plants, like maize, cotton, oilseed rape is also increasing. Situation reflects also in feed, where presence of GMO is very frequent. Legislation in European community clearly defines procedures for approval of new GMOs on the market and requests traceability and labelling of food and feed containing GMOs. Slovene legislation is harmonized with EU legislation, results of GMO monitoring organized by responsible ministries and inspection services are available to public on their web pages.
