The contribution evaluates the economic situation in agriculture in the period of 2004-2006, i.e. after the SR accession into the European Union. It is elaborated pursuant to economic development results of approximately 1200 legal persons and 900 natural persons. It deals with forces affecting economic effectiveness of agriculture. It includes development of incomes, production, employment, loans and profitability of enterprises. It maps the level of supports in EU countries and Slovakia. It mentions differences concerning profit/loss (in individual legal forms) as well as profit cumulation. It also mentions a paradox - an increase in subsidies makes for income increase but not for production growth.
