Objectives of this study were 1) to evaluate S2 lines by testcrossing with inbred tester and 2) to select the superior S3 lines to form the new cycle of KSC3(HI)C3. A total of 154 S2 lines were developed from KSC3(HI)C2-F1, the shrunken-2 sweet corn population. They were testcrossed with inbred tester KSei14004. The 154 testcrosses and two check hybrids Insee2 and Hi-Brix 3 were evaluated in a 13*12 retangular lattice at the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center in the 2008 dry season. Results showed that the 25 best testcrosses gave mean fresh yields, eating quality and most of agronomic traits better than those of the average means of the 154 testcrosses. The means of green weight, yellow weight and good weight of the 25 best testcrosses were 12,566, 8,305 and 7,167 kg/ha, respectively. Their mean yields were higher than those of the 154 testcrosses by 4.6, 8.5 and 8.8 percent, respectively. The 10 best testcrosses produced mean green weight (12,317 kg/ha), yellow weight (8,343 kg/ha) and good weight (7,124 kg/ha) higher than those of check hybrid means by -0.5, 3.5 and 13.3 percent, respectively. From the results, the S2 lines of 25 best testcrosses were recombined for the KSC3(HI)C3 population. The promising S2 lines were developed for inbred lines to produce single-cross hybrids for the fresh market and processing.
