Effect of aqueous extract from cyanobacteria (Hapalosiphon sp.) on lipid peroxidation in two weed seedlings ie. giant mimosa (Mimosa pigra L.) and feather pennisetum (Pennisetum polystachyon Schult.) was investigated. The extract was sprayed three times on the plants in order to examine malondialdehyde (MDA) content, the degree of lipid peroxidation. The results showed that increasing of the extract concentration enhanced MDA content in leaves of both weeds. In contrast, MDA content in roots did not increase. The treatment with 175 g dry wt l-1 significantly increased MDA content (68 percent of control) in leaves of giant mimosa. In feather pennisetum, the concentration of 125 and 175 g dry wt l-1 significantly increased MDA content (40 and 38 percent of control) in leaves. These results indicated that the extract from Hapalosiphon sp. enhanced lipid peroxidation in leaves of both weeds and had more effect in giant mimosa than feather pennisetum.
