Nine isolates of microalgae were cultivated in basal medium under light intensity of 5 klux, the diurnal cycle of 16 hr day/8 hr night, continuous feeding rate of carbon dioxide 0.67 vvm and at 30 deg C. Algal isolates, WU-S05, WU-S06 and Scenedesmus sp. WU-W11 gave maximum lipid content of 21.98, 20.54 and 17.75 percent (w/w) and had the specific growth rates of 0.0299, 0.0313 and 0.0241 /hr, respectively, which are closed to those of two reference strains of Chlorella spp. The highest predicted growth rates of 0.6930, 0.5647 and 0.4941 g/l/d from mathematical growth model derived by Baranyi and Roberts (1994) were obtained from Chlorella spp. WU-W05, WU-W01 and WU-W03, respectively. Although they showed lower lipid content, the maximal cell concentrations were attained at 7.90, 7.42 and 3.77 g/l, which resulted in high volumetric rate of lipid production.
