Characterisation and Evaluation of groundnut collection
2006
Nguyen Thi Ly | Nguyen Van Ly
During 2003- 2005, for three continuous crop seasons, 215 out of 254 varieties of the national groundnut collection, including more than 142 local ones, were characterized/evaluated in the following characters: morphology; growth; yield and yield components; and pest resistance/tolerance. Variations of the most important characters within the collection were also assessed, and promising varieties screened. Results obtained demonstrate the following: All the 215 varieties expressed good growth and development in spring crop season; Most of the varieties had medium measurements of most characters, including maturation time and growth duration, although certain genetic diversity level among varieties was recorded. Five varieties were identified as having most desirable measurements of most important characters, including maturation time, plant height, branch number and type, leaf shape and colour, seed colour and weight and yield. It is recommended that these 5 promising varieties to be subjected to further evaluation and field trials towards defining the most appropriate ones for re-introduction to large scale production.
