Evaluation of export capacity of the Armenian electroenergetics sector

Armenia has substantial resources to export electric power. This fact is backed by production capacities of the Armenian energy system, which was designed to have energy surplus, as well as the geographical position of the country in South Caucasus. However, the export potential is not used to its full capacity and, as a result, external commercial activities of Armenian energy sector is currently limited to regular mutual power supply between Armenia and Iran. Current and prospective production capacities, proximity to regional consumers, competitive price on natural gas, effective and balanced structure of energy production, and other factors prove that "Armenian kilowatt" is currently competitive in the region. Ability of Armenian high-voltage transferring system enables both to export and to transit energy.
