The investigation was carried out during 20032007 of the trial field of Dobrudja Agricultural Institute on slightly leached chernozem soil. To clarify the effect of different soil tillage types on the productivity of sunflower hybrid San Luka, the following variants from a stationary field trial were analyzed: plowing at 2426 cm, autumn disking and double spring cultivation check variant, double disking at depth 1012 cm accompanied with autumn disking and double spring cultivation; cutting at 2426 cm, autumn disking and double spring cultivation; direct sowing pre-sowing treatment with total herbicides. The reduction of the number and depth of the soil tillage operations retarded the growth of the sunflower plants at the initial stages of their development. After disking as a main soil tillage this tendency was observed during the later stages as well. The size of the inflorescence and the seed weight per inflorescence increased with the increased number and depth of soil tillage. The systematic usage of plowing and cutting without turning of the plow layer did not cause significant differences in the seed yield from hybrid San Luka. This hybrid had lower plant height after direct sowing and annual disking.
