Field trials were conducted at the upland sugarcane experimental field in Nigeria from 2004-2007 wet and dry seasons to determine the direct, indirect and individual percentage contribution of sugarcane growth characteristics to stalk yield. Our results show the interrelationship between stalk yield and growth characteristics. Stalk length, stalk girth, number of chewable stalks and crop vigour score positively contributed to the stalk yield. The number of chewable stalks was the main factor influencing the yield.
