To assess this study, pigs (Large White x Landrace) received diets supplemented with 100 mg alpha-tocoferol/kg feed and different concentrations of vitamin A (0, 1300, 13000 y 100,000 UI). The alpha-tocoferol concentration of fat linearly decreased when the retinol increased (P< 0.005). However, in liver alpha-tocoferol concentration decreased linearly (P>0.05) and quadratically (P>0.05), which suggests an exponential response. The most marked decreased of alpha-tocopherol in liver was when concentrations of approximately 25 ug retinol/g and 300 ug retinol palmitate/g were reached. We can conclude that there is an interaction between vitamins A and E in fattening pigs, which is especially interesting taking into accounts the effects of these vitamins on meat quality.
