The eggs of Diopsis thoracica in irrigated rice-fields during the dry season are randomly distributed but with a tendency to be slightly aggregated. No edge-effect was observed. The eggs are mostly laid singly on the tillers. Positions with high humidity were preferred for egg-laying, especially the lower sections of the stem near the water level and the base of the lower leaves. On young rice, about one third of the eggs were laid on the stem, this increased to about 90% on plants older than 6 weeks. On upland rice, eggs laid during the rainy season were concentrated on the leaves.
