Germination of pisifera oil palm seed under plantation condition

Factors limiting the germination of fertile pisifera seeds and techniques devised for overcoming them are briefly discussed. The desirability of creating pure stands of fertile pisifera palms is also discussed. A method of germinating seeds of pisifera palms under plantation conditions is described and the results obtained are compared with what has been achieved by other techniques. This method might be considered for large-scale germination of pisifera seeds because of its simplicity and low cost.
