The first half-yearly programme coordinating committee meeting of the project was held on the 18th of May, 2000, at the Secretariat of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Accra. to discuss progress of work and constraints, taking into consideration the objectives of the project. The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Ibadan, Nigeria, was represented by Dr. Abdou Tenkouano, IITA Musa breeder whose immense contribution was greatly appreciated by the GATS BY GHANA project team. GTZ recently expanded and equipped the tissue culture facility at Crops Research Institute (CRI). In June, 2000, the GTZ also commissioned a modern screened hardening shed for CRI, at Kumasi. The GATS BY project scientists are making use of these facilities.
