In order to determine the nutritive value of sorghum grain (SG) and it's tannin on layer performance, three varieties of SG containing low tannin sorghum (LTS, 0.14%), medium tannin sorghum (MTS, 0.24%), and high tannin sorghum(HTS, 0.38%) were chose. In a completely randomized design the effect of different levels of substitution of corn (0.0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) with SG on the diet of 195 leghorn laying hens from 25 to 36 weeks of age were studied . The results showed that replacement of LTS and MTS up to 75% had no significant effect on feed intake. Feed intake for HTS, LTS and MTS was 117, 106 and 102 gram, respectively (P0.05). The highest and the lowest FCR were belonged to 100% (2.35) and 50% (2.23) substitution respectively (P0.05). 75% replacement of MTS had the best FCR (2.23). Egg output for control, LTS, MTS and HTS diets were 82.52, 84.70, 82.67 and 85.99% respectively, that only HTS showed significant difference (P0.05). The highest egg weight (55.26 g) was for 75% replacement, and among SG varieties HTS had the highest egg weight (55.15g). Linear and quadratic effects of tannin intake on yolk quality characters were significant (P0.01). While, egg weight and egg shell strength showed only a linear correlation with tannin intake (P0.05 and P0.01, respectively).
