We examined the activation of immunoactivity ability of eucommia ulmoides (E. ulmoides) leaves when E. ulmoides leaves were fed to chickens for 21 days. The weight of the chicken was measured befor the start of breeding and after the end of breeding. The peripheral blood was collected after the end of breeding. The hematocrit value and heterophil/lymphocyte ratio of peripheral blood were analyzed. Immunoactivity analyzed by measurement of phagocytosis with macrophages, macrophage chemotaxis, and NK cells activity in chicken's peripheral blood. The macrophage phagocytic capacity of peripheral blood was analyzed by the fluorescence latex bead method. The macrophage chemotaxis of peripheral blood was analyzed by the chemotaxis chamber method. NK cells activity measured by analysis of CD8alphasup(+) cells by flow cytometory. The weight gain decreased by E. ulmoides feeding. There was no difference in the hematocrit value of peripheral blood. From these results, it was proved that there is no aggravation of the health condition accompanying weight reduction. As compared with the contrast group, the ratio of peripheral blood heterophil / lymphocyte increased significantly in the dry E. ulmoides leaves feeding group and the boiled E. ulmoides leaves feeding group. This result shows the stress mitigation effect of the dry E. ulmoides leaves feeding. As compared with the contrast group, the phagocytic capacity and chemotaxis of the macrophage of peripheral blood increased significantly in the dry Eucommia ulmoides leaves feeding group and the boiled E. ulmoides leaves feeding group. On the other hand, as compared with the contrast group, the dry E. ulmoides leaves feeding group and the boiled E. ulmoides leaves feeding group also increased discovery of the CD8alphasup(+) cell significantly. The possibility of the activation effect of immunoactivity by dry E. ulmoides leaves feeding was suggested by these results.
