Evaluating of growth of breeding heifers since birth and up to 6 months of age, as well as factors affecting growth was studied. Heifers were studied on growth rate and intensity of individual and group keeping conditions. The study included 365 heifers for which birth date, birth live weight and live weight when transferring to the group for keeping were recorded. Live weight measurements were taken from 1095 calves. For the growth analysis animals were grouped by breed, birth year and season, as well as by keeping technology. Results showed that birth year had significant impact on live weight by birth, the individual keeping duration and total duration of the trial period, and the absolute increase in live weight a day throughout the study period. Positive correlation was observed between live weight by birth and live weight in later stages. Significantly greater live weight increases won the individual keeping of autumn born heifers (870 g), but in 2008 born heifers increased weight gain obtained by keeping in block (890 g, p is less than 0.05). In summer, weight gain was significantly higher than in other seasons (886 g, p is less than 0.05). To improve the heifers to be raised for the first two weeks after the birth, calves need to be fed three times a day, but once moved to the older groups they need to be fed concerning their live weight and age.
