The river Salaca is most important wild Salmon River in the Latvia. To study fish species distribution and diversity of aquatic vegetation in the River Salaca, the composition of aquatic vegetation was described in fish monitoring points in summer 2009. The highest aquatic plants and fish species richness is found in Salaca downstream (section Inspekcija), as well as in overfall at Mūnas (found respectively 15 and 20 macrophyte species). The River Salaca productive salmon biotopes is the river overfall sections with velocity of 30-60 cm/s and an average depth of 30 cm. In riverbed the dominant substrate in these biotopes is stones and pebbles.
