Bio-N, a microbial-based seed inoculant containing nitrogen-fixing bacteria (Azespirillium species) was verified in the five corn-growing areas of Region 9 from 2007 wet season to 2007-2008 dry season. The study aimed to generate regional data to support the promotion, commercialization and utilization of Bio-N as source of low-cost nitrogenous fertilizer for corn. The experimental variables evaluated were the application of fertilizers at Laboratory Recommendation (LR), LP plus Bio-N and LR at 50% Nitrogen (N) plus Bio-N. The yield data gathered were subjected to Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and economic analysis. Results have shown that Bio-N did not generate uniform effects across seasons. During the wet season, fertilizer application at LR with 50% N plus Bio-N proved to have enhanced plant growth, produced longer ears, gave significantly much higher yield of 10.37 t/ha with increased in net income at lower production cost. In contrast, dry season data showed that fertilizer application of LR + Bio-N figuratively gave higher yield of 9.84 t/ha compared to LR at 50% N plus Bio-N. No significant variations were observed on agronomic parameters in conditions where microbial multiplication and nitrogen fixation were inhibited due to the inadequacy of soil moisture.
