The studies were carried out at the Agricultural Experimental Station Swojec, at Agricultural University of Wrocław, Lower Silesia, Poland, in 2003-2004. The main aim was to determine the differences in number of different groups of mites in soil in winter wheat field and in field boundary. In each year, both in spring and autumn time, the greatest number of Acari was recorded in soil taken from field boundary. Every time the most abundant group of mites was Oribatida. Gamasida, Prostigmata and Astigmata were less numerous. Therefore, it is suggested that intensive farming practices can significantly decrease the number of mites in soil of winter wheat field in comparison to the field boundary
