The experiment was conducted in the years 1993-95 in the Agricultural Experimental Station in Sadlowice near Pulawy (Poland). Cultivar of faba bean with different morphological features (Nadwislanski, Tinos, and Caspar) constituted the first rank factor in the experiment, whereas sowing rate in two variants: 50 and 70 seeds per 1 square m was the second rank factor. N content were determined in leaves, stems and pods (one time per week) in the period between flowering and full maturity. The objective of the study was to investigate the rate at which nitrogen accumulated in the leaves, stems and pods of faba bean cultivars differing in growth and development rate over the period from onset of blooming to full maturity. The faba bean cultivars Nadwislanski, Tinos and Caspar differed for total nitrogen amounts accumulated during growth. The highest uptake rate of those nitrogen was shown by cv. Nadwislanski - a variety with conventional type of growth. Nadwislanski variety with undetermined development scheme was characterized by the highest absolute growth rate. Maximum values of the index of absolute growth rate for Nadwislanski and Caspar varieties were noted in a stage when their pods were visible in 3 clusters, whereas for Tions variety this was observed 7-12 days earlier. The highest relative biomass growth of faba bean for all 3 selected varieties was observed when flowers were visible on 2-3 clusters. At the beginning of flowering stems with flowers had higher share in a total biomass of faba bean than leaves. Whereas in the maturing stage pods had the highest share in a total biomass. The highest nitrogen accumulation was noted at the end of flowering, however for Tions variety (self-finishing variety) this was observed 7-10 days earlier than for Nadwislanski and Caspar varieties. At the beginning of flowering leaves had the highest share in a total accumulated nitrogen pool per plant. Before harvest, nitrogen were mostly accumulated in pods
