By electron microscopy as well as by PCR method it was shown that studied grapevine diseasea are caused by phytoplasmas. Two types of phytoplasmas, Flavescence doree (16SrV-C) and Stolbur (16SrVXII) have been identified. Surveys and investigations done from 2003 to 2005 have shown that phytoplasma diseases (GY) are very widespread in Serbia. GY found to present in the following viticultural regions in Serbia: Zapadnomoravskom, Nisavsko-juznomoravskom, Juznobanatskom, Severnobanatskom, Suboticko-Horgoskom, Timockom, Sumadijsko-Velikomoravskom, Sremskom and in the region of Deliblato sand. The vines infected by phytoplasmas remain permanently diseased. Recovery and symptoms withdrawing were registered during this study only on transplanted vines. Mass and severe decline of vines infected by phytoplasmas was recorded in vineyards with Plovdina cv., which showed to be very sensitive to the studied pathogens. Somewhat less susceptibility to GY have shown by Prokupac and Italian Riesling cvs. Leafhopper Scaphoideus titanus Ball., the vector of FD, was also found to be present in all viticultural regions of Serbia.
