Red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) is botanically a perennial, although it often behaves as a biennal. The crop usually lives 2 to 3 seasons in most clover-growing regions of the world and is generally conceded to be lacking in persistence. The objective of this investigation was to analyze the production potential and persistence of domestic and imported red clover vatieties. Experiments were conducted at Rimski Sancevi experimental field during the period 2004-2006. The experimental materials were six varieties (K-17, Kolubara, Una, Viola, Start, Nike) which were analyzed for the most important production characteristics: yield of green mass, dry matter yield and persistence.
