The problem whom a peasant - micro farmer and a firm - macro farm meets in Durmitor area (Montenegro) are numerous and they are solely connected with their basic activity - the existing of animal husbandry. Raising of cattle breeding and sheep breeding, as well as producing of dairy product like cheese, cream and meat product, kastradina (smoked, mutton meat, lamb meat) have been, and still are traditional activity. These problems could be grouped in two big groups: natural and social problems. The unfavourable development of agriculture in Montenegro has, to a great part, beef affected by the family farms which have substantially been neglected. This refers, particularly to farms located in the Durmitor area which had comparative advantages, favoring livestock breeding - animal husbandry, development, i.e. cattle production. The objective of the study was to analyze some major characteristics of these farms.
