Adequate supply of rumen degradable and undegradable protein in diets for high yielding cows is important for optimizing the balance between microbial protein degradation and synthesis, and duodenal flow of ruminal escape protein. This can be achieved by feeding protein supplements as sources of rumen undegradable protein (RUP) for lactating cows. Significance and effects of feeds high in RUP use on physiological and productive performances of lactating cows was described. The importance of quantity and balance of essential amino acids absorbable in intestine, supplied by microbial protein and rumunal escape protein and an effect of protected amino acids use to meet the requirements of lactating cows was considered. Protein quality and source, not only the dietary level of crude protein, ate the most important parameters for productive performances of lactating cows.
