Tropical mite - Polyphagotarsonemus latus Banks, was detected for the first time in Montenegro in October 2006, on pepper in several greenhouses around city of Podgorica. This largely polyphagous mite attacks host plants outdoors in tropical areas, while in temperate regions in greenhouses. Its presence is recorded from host plants which belong to around 60 different botanical families. However, certain hosts like citrises, pepper, tomato, beans, potato, and cucumber are mostly affected and African violet, begonia, chrysanthemum, cyclamen, dahlia, Gerbera, Hibiscus, Hedera, as well. On infested peppers symptoms of attack are recognized on terminal buds which die, on leaves that became curled and chlorotic, flowers usually drops off, while newly formed fruits are deformed and bronzed. Since its first detection in 2006, until 2009, P. latus was spread on new localities (wider area of Podgorica, Danilovgrad and Montengrin coast - Đenovići) and on new host plants (citruses), as well.
