The content of different forms of heavy metals in the valley of Kolubara river

In the valley of Kolubara river in the area of 66000 ha, 66 soils were collected in the greed system from the depth of 0-25 cm. In the same area, some additional samples (16) on the spots with higher content of heavy metals were collected from the depth of 0-25 and 25-50 cm, respectively. The performed analyses of soil samples exhibit mainly acid to moderately acid reaction of soil, and absence of carbonates (in 86% of samples). The content of organic matter (humus) in mainly on the average range. In some samples total content of heavy metals Ni (93%), Cr (55%), and Pb (10%) is above MAC. In that area soil samples were collected from 2 depths and total content of heavy metals (in aqua regia) and available content of heavy metals (in DTPA) were performed. The results obtained, by the the soil profile depth, exhibit no big difference among the content of heavy metals. For that reason one might conclude that heavy metals in soils are of the geochemical origin, and not caused by the contamination.
