The results of histological investigation of parenchyma biopsy pieces of udder of normal dry cows, with subclinical and clinically pronounced purulent catarrhal mastitis (PCM) were given. The parenchyma of healthy udder at the second phase of post-lactation changes was characterized by mitosis of gland epithelium of alveoli and interlobe excretory ducts. In the middle of dry period subclinical mastitis is characterized by destruction, alteration, stroma proliferation, atrophy of alveolus gland epithelium and small excretory ducts testifying thereby to predominating destructive processes. In the postmortem picture of PCM determining is alteration of gland tissue, stroma proliferation and replacement of parenchyma regions with connective tissue. The efficiency of using stable tests on dry cows based on detecting an increased number of leucocytes in the udder secrete by reaction of gel-formation. The coincidence of indices of the test reaction with direct counting leucocytes in the udder secretory was the most complete when using a detergent progress M-20. Thus, the influence of mastitis on the intensity and nature of involution changes in mammary gland is shown and the method of express diagnosis is proposed
