Evaluation of new formulations of pendimethalin in tank mixture with atrazine to control weeds in sugarcane

Experiments were conducted at Kenana Research Farm to evaluate the efficacy of Pendikool 50 EC, Sharpen 50 EC, Stomp 33 EC and Pendal 33 EC (new formulations of pendimethalin)), each in tank mixture with Gesaprim 80 % WP for the control of weeds in sugarcane. The products resulted in good to excellent control of grasses up to 12 weeks after spraying (WAS). The effects of the treatments on broad-leaved weeds, however, was good at 4 WAS and poor at 8 and 12 WAS. The cane stalks populations and yields of all tested herbicides treatments were significantly higher than that of the untreated control and comparable to those of the hand-weeded and the standard treatment
