The purpose of the investigation was to evaluate the adequacy of data collected at the slaughter line for the selection on EUROP carcass traits, carcass weight and gain of carcass weight in the Brown and Holstein breed. Data of 11.371 Brown and 13.003 Holstein animals, 300 to 850 days old, slaughtered in the period between 2003 and 2008 in commercial slaughter-houses were studied. Single trait and multitrait animal model was used for the evaluation of genetic and environmental parameters for the traits: carcass weight, net gain (only single trait analysis), conformation clas, s and fatness class. In the statistical model, sex, slaughter-house - year of slaughtering, month of slaughtering and age within sex (as second degree polynomial) were included as fixed effect, and herd and additive genetic effect as random effects. The heritability values obtained ranged from 0.05 to 0.14 at single trait analysis and from 0.05 to 0.15 at multi trait analysis. Heritabities were slightly higher in Brown breed. Genetic correlations between traits were positive, in the range from 0.32 to 0.55. The variance of herd effect which was the main source of variability caused from 22 to 54 % of the total variance. The results obtained indicate the possibility of using information collected at the slaughter line for selection purposes.
