[Modern hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) collection as an unexhaustible source of parental breeding material]

By the many-year hemp growing in different regions under the influence of natural selections, a hemp collection was formed, specimens of which, since the founding the Institute of Bast Crops of UAAN, served as the parental material for scientific breeding. At present the National Collection comprises 425 examples of dioecious and monoecious hemps from 27 countries. As a result of creative activities of representatives of scientists of several generations, not an increase in general productivity of hemp only but also improvement of their separate characters, for example bringing the fiber content in stems from 10-13 to 30% and more or creating a new monoecious form, or eliminating the natrcotic effect, took place.

Із окремих кряжів багатовікового вирощування конопель в різних регіонах під дією несвідомого добору найбільш допитливими землеробами, а також наступного цілеспрямованого штучного добору була сформована колекція, зразки якої з моменту створення інституту послужили вихідним матеріалом для поетапної наукової селекції. Українська національна колекція нараховує 425 зразків дводомних і однодомних конопель з 27 країн. Внаслідок творчої діяльності різних представників селекціонерів декількох поколінь відбулося не тільки збільшення загальної продуктивності конопель, але й поліпшення їх окремих ознак, наприклад доведення вмісту волокна в стеблах з 10-13 до 30% і більше або створення нової однодомної форми чи елімінації наркотичної дії.
