During the period 2006-2007 at the Plant Protection Institute - Kostinbrod were carried out field trials in tomatoes, cv. Ideal to compare the efficacy of the single use of the soil herbicides metrhibuzine zenkor and s-metholachlor dual gold, the combination of metrhibuzine+s-metholachlor applied before planting of the tomatoes and the systems metrhibuzine+s-metholachlor phenoxaprop-p-ethyl furore super or metrhibuzine+smetholachlor cultivation during the vegetation. The experiment was laid down in a randomized complete block design with four replications. The following characteristics were recorded: number and fresh weight of the weeds and controlled weeds %. The effect of soil herbicides was assessed on the 30-th day whereas foliar on the 15-th day after treatment. It was established that metrhibuzine at a dose 49g/da a.i. reduce 95.7% of annual broadleaved weeds whereas s-metholachlor at a dose 115.2g/da a.i. reduce 93.0% of annual grass weeds. The total herbicide effect is 71,4% and 73,2% respectively for the two herbicides. The highest herbicide effect on annual grass and broad-leaved weeds was demonstrated by the two systems, which consists of soil application of metrhibuzine+s-metholachlor and treatment with foliar herbicide phenoxaprop-p-ethyl 82,8g/da against grass weeds or cultivation during the vegetation .
