Water in pig production is mostly used as drinking water. There are several factors affecting water consumption by the animal, such as environmental comfort, accommodation, food and handling factors. The aim of this study is to characterize different types of pig commercial drinkers in the laboratory. Eleven types of drinkers were evaluated for water flow and pressure of 1 bar as a function of screw type of regulation. We concluded that there is a large variability between drinkers as a function of design, thread and pressure. The type of drinker, together with location, height, pressure and flow are important points to optimize water management on the farm.
