Different doses of 4 organosulphurous compounds were incubated in vitro for 24 hours in diluted goat's ruminal fluid with two experimental diets consisting of a 50:50 forage:concentrate mix, in which the main source of protein and energy differed in the concentrate: diet R (faba beans and barley) and diet L (corn and sunflower meal). Treatments were: control (no additive) and increasing concentrations (40, 80, 160 y 320 microl/l) of four organosulphurous compounds (PTS, PTSO, diallyl disulfide and Garlicon). The system used for gas production measure was the new automated in vitro system developed by Ankom. The 24 hours gas production decreased (P<0.05) at the doses 160 microl/l and 320 microl/l for PTS, PTSO and the doses 80 microl/l, 160 microl/l and 320 microl/l for diallyl disulfide. Diet had an effect (<0.001) on gas production with PTS and PTSO after 24 hours incubation, as gas production was decreased in a higher extent with L diet. The VFA production decreased (P<0.05) only in PTS and PTSO with the L diet. Our results showed the potential of some organosulphurous compounds to manipulate rumen fermentation in goats and this potential depends on the nature of the diet.
