Performance of 12 promising rice lines with two checks were evaluated across 4 locations, in Fars province during 2002-2005. This study was carrried out to determine stability of grain yield and some morphological and quality characters in order to select the best genotypes. Genotype effect was significant in separate locations and years for all traits in simple Anova. In combined analysis the simple effects of genotype , location and year were found to be significant for all traits except for year effect of gel consistency. Variation due to location × year for all traits, genotype×year for yield, filled grain per panicle, amylose content gelatinization temperature and gel consistency, genotype× location for all traits except for effective tiller no.panicle lengths, total grain per panicle and amylase content, and genotypes×year× location interactions were significant for all characters which approved the importance of G×E interaction. Stability parameters (X, bi, S2d, S2 i , CVi , MSy/p , CVy/p and R2) estimated for grain yield revealed that line No.1(Domsiah//Domsiah/Tetep) with highest yield and minimum variance (S2 i) and coefficient of variation (CVi) of environment ,intra location variance (MSy/p) and coefficient of variation(CVy/p) , lines No. 4 and 8(Domsiah//Domsiah/Tetep) for coefficient of regression of mean yield on environmental index (bi) equal unity and high yield , line No.16(ch3/IR25820- 82-5-3) for minimum variance of deviation from regression line (S2di) and maximum coefficient of determination (R2) , line No.24(Ghasrodashti/IR29642-1-2-2) for bi equal unity and less MSy/p and CVy/p were found to be the most stable genotypes . Mean ranking of stability parameters for grain yield indicated that lines No. 1, 4, 8, 16, 22(Ghasrodashti/IR29642-1-2-2), and 24 were the promising genotypes, Whereas genotypes 1 , 4 , 8 and 24 were the most stable genotypes due to totalization of all stability parameters for yield and all agronomical and quality characters .
