Simultaneous Determination of Tocopherols and Sesame Lignans in Sesame Varieties by HPLC

Sesame contains various lignans such as sesamin, sesamolin, sesaminol et al. It was wellknown that sesamin in sesame oil has various physiological activities such as inhibitory activity of cholesterol and 5-unsaturated enzyme in the body and sesaminol has good anticancer ability. The lignan content of sesame oil can be different depending on sesame varieties and the refining process. The tocopherol in sesame varieties is mainly -tocopherol. The present study is to develop an analysis method for simultaneously determining lignans and tocopherols in sesame oil by the HPLC. Analysis conditions for the HPLC apparatus capable of simultaneously determining sesamin, sesamolin and -tocopherol is flux of 1.2 ml per minute by using Diol column with n-hexane/methyl t-butyl ether(96/4) as mobile phase.
