The aim of investigation is to determine microbiological contamination in relation to the acquisition site. Because upon to necessary amount of water, related sites hydro-geological situation and accessible resources, water acquisition wells can be different, and each of them characterized by a kind of risk to water quality and safety. Our terms of reference were as follows: (1) to carry out selection of water samples from different water acquisition sites; (2) to determine bacteriological contamination of water samples; (3) to determine presence of mould fungi in water samples; (4) to evaluate microbiological contamination of drinking water in relation to the acquisition sites; (5) to evaluate dynamics of drinking water microbiological contamination in relation to seasonality. The investigation was elaborated by the author of the article at the Division of Microbiology of the Research Institute of Biotechnology and Veterinary Medicine Sigra Agency of Latvia University of Agriculture and at the Institute of Food and Environmental Hygiene of Latvia University of Agriculture under the guidance of Dr. Med.Vet. Anda Valdovska. The sample material was drinking water of Sigulda amalgamated municipality.
