Shoots' samples of high (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) and half-high (Vaccinium corymbosumXVaccinium angustifolium) blueberry cultivars were taken eight times (during wintering and when vegetation period started) and investigated to find out seasonal changes of reducing sugar and dry matter content. All investigated cultivars showed significant seasonal differences in content of reducing sugar (p = 0.01). The highest level of reducing sugar content was reached in December and January, but the lowest in March. Significant differences of dry matter content were stated depending on months. Significant differences of dry matter were not observed depending on blueberry cultivar. A weak correlation was found (r=0.45; p is less than 0.01) between reducing sugar content and air temperature. Medium close negative correlation (r=-0.77; p is less than 0.01) was found between reducing sugar content and dry matter content. Different physiological processes influenced by meteorological conditions during wintering caused changes in dry matter and reducing sugars content in annual shoots of high bush blueberries.
