Serai wangi oil (Cymbopogon nardus) extracted by steam distillation was characterised in order to produce consistent quality oil. The major components comprised of citronellal, citronellol and geraniol. Serai wangi oil has been used as an ingredient in the development of personal care products. The developed products were subjected to several studies to ensure their stability and safety for use. Tests conducted on developed products have proved effectiveness against a variety of microorganisms related to skin infections. The consumer acceptance study was also carried out to ensure that the products developed could be commercially produced.
